Iona Beach

Iona Beach Regional Park

Summer to-do list task #3: Iona Beach. check.

After months and months of wanting to check this place out, I finally did today. My brother accompanied me after our mini-travel day to Granville Island.

Anyways, only one word can express my feelings about it: Wow. Wow, as in … Wow, I never knew that theres such a place in Richmond like that. Wow. The park sort of resembled a beach, but not really. Theres sand along the coast but  I don’t think its open to public for swimming.  Actually, I don’t expect people swimming there, afterall, its supposed to be a bird haven. It’s more of a Garry Point “beach” but not designated for picnics. I dont think it is bird season yet, so I didnt come across a lot of birds. It was also low tide today, so the place looked like a muddy trashy place. It was pretty empty though, not a lot of people.

Iona Jetty

There was a spit/jetty but we walk on it. It was too long, and I don’t think I’m up for that amount of exercise hehe… I would have loved to go to the end of it if I had a bike though. Maybe next time? But I need to get a bike first. hehehehe. I would definately like to go back and check this place out again.

Marianas Trench – Acadia

30 04 2009

1712 Acadia

“Remember when
1712 Acadia road fell,
They tore the house down…”

- Marianas Trench : Acadia

Marianas Trench is one of the bands that I have come to enjoy listening to.  I was listening to their newest album, Masterpiece Theatre, and came across with the song “Acadia.”  Its a pretty catchy song, and it has come to be one of my favorite songs in the album (The other was “Good to you” featuring Kate Voegele). Anyways, the song is basically about the memories of the singer. I found it really interesting that at the bridge part of the song, the lead singers mentions the address of the house hr grew up in. Knowing that Marianas Trench is a local band, I thought it would be interesting to see the house.  errr… stalker? >_>

So I checked it out and was pretty surprised with the result. The house (and the neighbourhood) was pretty awesome; really fancy, rich and high class. I totally didn’t expect it to be like that. The fact that I have come to stereotype rock bands as “people who started out poor and found great riches in music/fame” clearly distored my view. I guess the cliche “dont judge a book by its cover” really holds a lot of truth in it.
