Headed down to downtown at 2:00PM for the 5:00PM game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals with Jackie and Les to get good seats. Then met up with my sister, kp3, lala and jerg. The place is so crowded! I think the Vancouver police department expected 100,000 people to show up. We weren’t in the main street where most people were watching it, we were outside CBC building.
Sadly, the Canucks didnt win (got creamed by the Bruins 4-0). The better team won. *Sigh*. I was kinda disappointed the Canucks didn’t score, because I really wanted to see the crowd erupt in celebration. Had I known it was going to be like that, I would’ve stayed in Richmond. I guess my Daniel Sedin shirt didnt bring any luck hehe. Oh well, better luck next year ‘nucks. We’ll bounce back!
We left right after the game to avoid any possible riots (people were throwing water bottles and stuff to the TV screens). Skytrain was busy as heck! So many people and crazy lineups! Me and Jackie got separated from the rest of the group and missed the first Skytrain heading back because it was full. Had to wait for the next one; good thing it was only a 2 minute wait. On a completely different note, I saw a couple fight in the SkyTrain station. eeeeek!
Anyway, once we reached Richmond, we met up with the rest of the group and went to Liu’s for dinner. I was shocked to see a riot broke out in Vancouver: Buildings were broken in to, cars were lilt on fire, porta-potties were brought down, people fighting with the police. I didn’t think another riot would break out, since when I left downtown, everything was still in order. Its 1994 all over again (a riot broke out in ’94 when the Canucks lost to the Rangers in game7 finals as well). I guess it was good that we left early.
I’m pretty disappointed with Vancouver right now. I know the people who decided to trash, vandalize and start the riot are not a true representation of Vancouverites, but Vancouver’s reputation is just shattered. I thought after hosting the Winter Olympics last year we were all past these stupid immature behavior, but I guess not. I don’t even get what the point of the riot is! It’s not like the police were not Canucks fan. Breaking things over a hockey game is just dumb. So so dumb.
*sigh* real classy Vancouver.
